Seafood Sensations

Langoustines from the Bay Outside

I had to write something on this, but words were catastrophically lacking. We'd been living in this seaside location for almost two years, yet our experiences with seafood were sadly insufficient. Until we were presented with this generous portion of langoustines for lunch. Plump, yet robust and springy. Tender, yet full of character. Meaty and painstakingly extracted from their shells. They are best generously drizzled with lemon juice for that extra zest, and are even more heartening with a glass of Chenin Blanc. The view from the window overlooking the harbour in this small fishing town is stunning. Boats sway on the greenish-blue water and rare cars make their way along the cliff. The sea darkened, reflecting the sky, and it became cooler. Something happened inside me, and that plate of langoustines made my heart pound. I am not exaggerating. In that precise moment it was apparent that happiness lies in food.
