Breakfast in London, Dinner in Paris — a love story with recipes is an original literary and culinary work written and compiled by Kristina BABI. The photographs were commissioned and directed by Kristina BABI and produced by a photographer working under her instructions; she owns the copyright in them. This website is the author's own online edition of that book, published by the author.
Copyright in the work arose on creation and belongs to Kristina BABI as sole author and rights holder. This includes the twenty-one chapters and their stories, the forty-eight recipes with their headnotes, ingredient lists and methods, all food and travel photography commissioned and directed by Kristina BABI, the translations into Russian and Chinese, the book title and its Russian and Chinese titles, and the design, layout and typography of this site (including any commissioned design elements produced under her direction).
What copyright protects here
A list of ingredients on its own is treated as a statement of fact in most jurisdictions and is not protected. Everything around it is: the written method, the headnotes, the stories, the sequencing of chapters, the selection and arrangement of the recipes as a collection, and every photograph.
Copying the expression — the wording of a method, a story, a caption, a photograph — requires permission, even where the underlying dish does not.
What you may do without asking
Read, print and cook from any page for your own personal, family or non-commercial use.
Quote a short extract (roughly up to 100 words, or one recipe's headnote) with a clear credit to Kristina BABI and a visible, followable link to the page you took it from.
Link to any page freely, and share links on social media.
Cook a recipe from this site and photograph your own version of it. Your photograph is yours; the recipe text remains the author's.
What needs written permission
Republishing a story, recipe or photograph in full or in substantial part, on a website, in a newsletter, in print, in an app, or in a video description.
Translating any part of the work into another language, or publishing an adaptation, abridgement or “inspired by” rewrite of a chapter.
Any commercial use: paid membership sites, recipe aggregators, meal-plan products, ebooks, printed compilations, merchandise, or reproduction on a menu or product packaging.
Using the photographs separately from the text for any purpose, including stock, editorial or promotional use.
Using the work, in whole or in part, as training data for machine-learning or generative-AI systems, or ingesting it into a commercial dataset. Permitted quotation for the purpose of answering a reader's question with attribution and a link is welcome; bulk reproduction is not.
Third-party rights and credits
Recipes that came to the author from friends and family are credited by name in the chapter in which they appear; those credits must travel with any permitted quotation.
Names such as Amazon and Google are trademarks of their respective owners and appear here only to identify where the printed book can be bought and how the advertising on this site is served.
Requesting permission
Permission is often granted for editorial features, book reviews and non-commercial teaching use — please just ask first. Write to writer.babi@gmail.com with the pages you would like to use, where they will appear, and for how long.
Reporting infringement
If you find this work republished elsewhere without credit, please tell us at writer.babi@gmail.com with the URL. If you are a platform acting on a notice, the rights holder is Kristina BABI and the same address is the contact for takedown correspondence.
Buying the book
The printed and e-book editions remain available, and buying a copy is the most direct way to support the work that keeps this site free to read.
