Scottish Holidays

Scotland

My little girl is napping next to me, while my son and husband are seated across the aisle. We’re on a train journey home from Edinburgh to London. The memories of this week will stay with me for months to come. We were constantly on the go, even when we decided to take a day to unwind in the city in which we were staying. I was in a state of light-hearted excitement and my eyelashes trembled as I drifted off to sleep. Even during the day, the reality felt like a vivid dream. Meanwhile, sheep flashed by outside and the aromatic sea breeze filled my lungs. The weather was hot, rainy and cold all at once. The sombre atmosphere of the city, amplified by the twilight and the echoes of yesterday’s festival. An ancient fortress perched on a cliff, and another, restored yet steeped in history, which widened the eyes and sparked fascination. Seafood and fish that deserve the highest praise. A charming highland cow with a shaggy fringe. A whisky distillery – the oldest and most elegant, and noble in taste. Children’s attractions, including a science museum which the little ones were reluctant to leave. The list of memories seems endless. And just like the kids, I don’t want to wake up and leave that colourful dream behind. I wish it wouldn’t dissipate like a Scottish mountain cloud.
